Re: Doctor Poll
I was wondering how you did the research on Dr Nath? When I researched his surgeries I couldn't find anything out there at all, except what is on his own website and has not been published. There are no long term outcomes , even on the surgeries he has been doing for longer periods. If you have found any published results for him, or other doctor reviews please post links here. He was in the Top Doctor list a while back but I don't think he is any more, and I don't think that list means too much anyway, other great doctors I know of aren't on it either.

Re: Doctor Poll
We didn't ever get the offer of primary surgery for Amber as we were seeing a "local" doctor who really had minimal experience with BPI. When Amber was about 18 months old, we switched to Dr. Kozin at Shriner's Hospital in Philadelphia. He did the ACR on her shoulder a year ago with excellent results. I do believe he does primary, but I don't have that experience with him. We have been nothing but happy with his bedside manner, his knowledge level of the injury, his candidness (I hope I spelled that right), his patience with my asking the same questions over and over again, and his staff's abilities. We also got a second opinion from Dr. Waters.
This is a very personal decision. You can get opinions here, some good and some bad, but keep in mind you have to go with what you feel is best for your child. Multiple opinions is very important, research, and ask as many questions as you feel are necessary.
Good luck.

Re: Doctor Poll
Lori,
We saw Dr. Nath & loved him. I would definitely recommend you at least see him for an opinion.
Also, where in Wisconsin do you live? I'm in the Rockford area (Illinois, but pretty close to WI).
Best of luck,
Lauren (Brooke's mom 12 months LOBPI)

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am the proud Mama of an adult (20 years old) ROBPI daughter named Dani. She was delivered traumatically, with 1 1/2 severed nerves to her brachial plexus. She has had 2 surgeries over her lifetime. One at 11 months (sural nerve graft) and the 2nd one at 3 1/2 years old (resculpting humeral head in shoulder, latissumus & pectoral release and tendon transfer). She had both surgeries performed at BC Children's Hospital by Dr. Cynthia Verchere (Pediatric Plastic Surgeon) and the 2nd one by Dr. Christopher Reilly (Pediatric Orthapedic Surgeon). Her physiotherapist was Doria Bellows throughout her years of treatment. The Brachial Plexus Team in Vancouver is AMAZING.

Hi All..
Happy New yrs..
Well, We do live in BC, Canada, but I have taken Dani to Toronto Sick Children's, an orthopaedic specialist in L.A AND Dr Nath at Texas Children's and will never regret having Dani's surgeries done locally. Her "primary" surgery was done by:
Dr Cynthia Verchere
Her 2nd surgery, like the mod quad,:
Dr Chris Reilly
Both practice at British Columbia's Children's Hospital.
This has worked well for Dani and for Us. She has about 85-90% recovery.( and had 1 1/2 fully avulsed nerves...)
Hugs...Kimba

Re: Doctor Poll
We consulted a neurologist in Indianapolis who was very negative toward surgical intervention refferring to it as "mutliation". After a lot of proding we eventually got a refferal to see Dr. Park in St. Louis (we had to have the referral for insurance reasons) We went with St. Louis because of insurance, location and most of all we felt comfortable with their slightly more conservative approach. We decided to go to TCH with doctor Shenaq for secondary surgery.
