Mary,
We ordered the "Adhesive Tape Remover Pads" together with the Kinesio tape. It is very good to use when removing the tape, no pain at all. You can order the remover pad from Kines Medical (1-800-845-6364). It is a must-have when using the Kinesio tape. One box is only a few dollars.
My son has an itching reaction too. We used the milk of megnesia, it did not help much. ( Somebody posted here a few weeks of before about using something else, but I do not remember it.) That's why we cannot use tape constantly. The positive part of the itching reaction is that it forces my son to move/shrug his shoulder, kind of exercising the muslces around there in an unexpected way.
Good luck! Jenny

Re: kinesio tape and discomfort
The other thing to apply before tape was caladryl. You can also try putting baby oil on the tape and let it "soak" an hour before you remove it, then remove it in the bath - sloowwly, pressing down on the skin in front of each section of tape, almost like pulling the skin from the tape more than the tape from the skin. I hope that makes sense!
Re: kinesio tape and discomfort
I use the Dissolv-It adhesive remover to remove the tape from my son's scapula. You spray it on, wait 30 seconds, remove the tape. Then do the same to remove the rest of the adhesive from the skin.
He has had some skin irritation at times after I've removed the tape, but the taping is really helping to prevent scapula winging. So, when it gets irritated, we just take a few days off, and then tape again.
