Lourdes,
Thanks for posting this article! Very promising!

My brother knows Marc Tessier-Lavigne, one of the co-authors of the study, from financing start up companies in the bio-tech field. I forwarded the link to him, and he promises to keep us abreast of any new/useful info that might be of interest.

This is exactly what Dr. Thomas Carlstedt, peripheral nerve reimplantation specialist in London, said was needed to start having greater success with axonal re-growth from the spinal cord into reattached nerves. Thanks again.

Keep on posting any/all this kind of stuff. Please!

Christopher, another interesting read. Dr. Carlstedt performed the first surgery ever to reconnect avulsed nerves to the spine on a 9 yr old boy - because my son is 7, and in a unique age group for TBPI, I emailed him just after learning of Chase's injury. He responded in less than 24 hours letting me know he has yet to duplicate this surgery and that the surgeons we were working with were world renown and that he would recommend any of them. Apparently, a very risky procedure, but with excellent results. The article has a clip of the actual surgery as well as footage of what the boy was able to do following the surgery and rehab. Check out: http://www.aans.org/education/journal/n ... 16-5-7.pdf We need more of these guys around. Wish I could be at that dinner!

Lourdes,
I'm glad you were able to contact Dr. Carlstedt and he recommended your son's doctors. That kind of thing, at least to me, takes the weight off the 'coulda woulda shoulda' we experience when something as important as your health is at stake. Who did surgery on your son, if you don't mind me asking?

You're right, we need more doctors like Dr. Carlstedt, a true pioneer that wants to help and change the accepted status quo. I received lots of flack about seeing him at first from some of my doctors, because they thought the re-implantation procedure was an impossibility, then I find out that a year after they operated on me, one of my docs was going to be studying under him for an international fellowship. Which I was sooo glad to hear about, because that meant the status quo was being raised.

I wish I could be at that dinner as well! I hope my bro puts in some good questions on our behalf. Be well.
