Possibly looking into getting a handicap sticker Help
Possibly looking into getting a handicap sticker Help
I'm really having problems these days with my arm as well as my back and leg/hip. The last couple of times I have taken the kids to the ped I've had to park at the bottom of a hill and push the double stroller up the hill. I was really hurting after that. I've been running into more and more situations like that. So I'm thinking about trying to get a handicap sticker for my car. But I have no idea how to go about it.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

You have to get your doctor to fill out a form.
I just had to renew mine and I wish I had the smarts to get one when I was young and lifting the kids.
Because of the limitations my doctor just wrote Erb's Palsy. I did not have a problem.
Please call the doctors office and ask about it.
If that does not work call your local town and see what the requirements.
E-mail me if you need more help.

I see my new dr. tomorrow so I'll talk to him about it. It will be a good test on how he is going to be able to help me with the whole thing.

I got mine about three years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I found I was not doing all the things I wanted to do because of carrying bundles.
I use to park as far as possible from the store so I could get a little walk in. Then I realized I could not shop like that because my back hurt after I put all the things in the car.
I hope you don't have a problem and don't give up if you do... you really need it with bpi and twins!

I too got mine about 3 years ago. I had to pick up the form from the Sec of State office, then take it to my dr to fill out and then go back to sec of state. No problem. My dr put down copd and fibromyalgia instead of erbs palsy. But it didn't matter, I still got it. If I remember right, you only have to renew it every 5 years? And you don't have to have a dr sign again. Once you have it, it's yours to just renew at the sec state at no charge.
Like everyone else, I didn't want to do it, but as things go, I use it when I have to.
Good Luck and don't lose sleep over it. In fact, so many people have the handicap sign now, I find it hard to even get a place to park with mine. Figure that one out...
Good Luck

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
There is NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION.

Hi,....I got mine 1 1/2 yrs ago when I read the Topic here on the Adult Board. It has been a Godsend to me in lots of ways like Kath and the other gals who posted above me.
My WA state application form had a category called "Neurological", that's the box my Dr. checked & it took only 4 days by mail. BTW all Dr. offices have a supply of this form,But you have to know to ask for it!
Hugs all around & Camp 2007 or Bust!,
