Arthritis

Post by rachelcasa »

Just curious, I am starting to see more and more signs of arthritis in my arms, hands and for some reason this last week it seems to be traveling clear down to my legs. My legs have been in tremendous pain this week, I don't know if it is because it's getting cold here or what. Ahhh....first arms, now legs.
Anyone else have the same problem?
Thanks

Rachel,

A change in weather always brings on the arthritis pain, esp. cold and/or humidity. Do you have a warm water pool or a hot tub you can use. That really helps me.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Hot tub rally help me with pain control and my freezing right arm and leg.

I have a great deal of problems with my legs now due to spinal issues from compensation... so please check it out before it gets worse.

My hands are a mess and that is because I used them for strength when my arms wore out...
I hate to sound so negative but there are the facts of our lives due to compensation.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Thanks everyone for replying. Yes, I did go sit in my brother's hot tub this weekend and what a difference. Living here in this cold weather really hurts! The pains have subsided a bit, but they go clear to the ends of my toes. I've noticed this week my good arm too seems to be tightening up and having spasms as well. I might go try to walk on the treadmill a bit today to try to loosen myself up.

Rachel
One of the things my PT told me was that my unaffected arm was tight because it is always restricted to the length of my bpi arm.
That made sense to me so I try to do ROM in the hot tub extending my left "unaffected"...

It's funny I call it the "unaffected arm" yet it is so much more painful and worn out...
Maybe I should call it the "over worked and under paid arm".
I think our obpi arms get all the massage and care and the unaffected arms get to do all the work. LOL
