New Orleans help

We're going to be traveling through New Orleans on our way back from my son's surgery at TCH. Does anyone know the city well enough to recommend a safe hotel near the Amtrak station? Thanks in advance for your help!

We drove to TCH for my son's surgery in October and detoured for a little trip to New Orleans on the way back. We strolled Burbon Street and were going to get a hotel room but decided to keep on driving instead. The hotels around the French Quarters looked really nice but I'm not sure how far they are from the Amtrack.

I think Amtrak itself may have a travel service that may be able to help you with this - I'd try calling them. Many years ago my eldest daughter and I took a trip to Florida by train and they made all the hotel arrangements for us (and it was pretty cheap back then too!)
