Re: coming up on second rebirthday...

Today 10/15/2014 is my 1st Rebirthday. It has been a pretty great year - oh yeah, besides that little ol' brachial plexus injury. I had surgery at Mayo, I bought a house in NYC, I've been on many trips, I am doing very well at work, I bought yet another hobby car to play with and still manage to han...

Re: Anyone with experience tapering down or off Gabapentin?

I am not a doctor, but I spoke to the pain management doctor who specializes in BPI pain at the Mayo Clinic about this exact thing. When I flew out I was using 600mg of Gabapentin before bed each night, and I forgot my prescription at home. I met with him ~30 hours after my last dose and stated that...

Re: BPI advice surgery in 2 weeks

What do they plan to reinnervate with a graft/transfer? I wouldn't worry about the length of the surgery. It may take several hours but many other common surgeries also take a long time. You want them to be careful and take their time anyway. You'll be asleep, so it'll be all the same to you once yo...

Re: Looking for advice (graphic injury photos)*

Dude! 1. In a way, you are lucky to have such a "clear cut" injury. Hopefully no avulsions, and hopefully only C5/C6 is affected. You may be a good candidate for a nerve graft (basically, a repair, instead of transferring/repurposing other nerves). 2. Stop wasting time, seriously. Call May...

Suzanne, nice to read Ryan's story! I'm also from the Manasquan area (Belmar, now living in NYC). About 7 years older than Ryan. Cheers!

Re: Doctos at Mayo in 2013 / 2014

Well, here I am, back in Rochester, MN, in a Mayo waiting room, 8 weeks after my last visit. I'm about to go for a second EMG, then I'll meet with the trio again a few hours later today. I apologize for the delay in writing this follow-up post. My first visit in January went well. I really liked Shi...

Re: Frustration

Do people really post on these boards less than they used to? I guess so - looking through the pages, going back a few years, it does seem that the board was more active. But I still see people posting, and I notice that each new thread still gets hundreds of views, so people are reading, lurking. A...

Re: Need somebody to share my experience with

I am also new to the TBPI. I have avulsions of C6-8 for not yet a year. It seems hard to not know anyone with this type of injury... It is very isolating. Although I was seem in the brachial plexus clinic at the Mayo clinic I still feel that they don't understand my injury. I am still figuring out ...
