Re: Nerve transfer surgery tomorrow
When researching my sons injury that occurred in 07-2012, I had read that this injury sometimes causes one side of the diaphragm to become paralyzed. His first Dr had done a bronchial scope thinking there was lg blockages but never found what the thought they would find. Our local MD pointed out the...

Re: How successful is nerve transfer surgery?
Mayo clinic likes surgery under the six month mark. Check into it sooner rather than later!

Alex, all three are still there! Shin is funny and jokes around. Bishop takes the time to explain everything to you and make sure you understand things! Spinner we saw on my sons initial visit, but not much since. Tho he was in on the 1st surgery Dana had. They definitely know what's going on! Dana'...

Re: Muscle and nerve transfer to hand
My son has all 5 nerves avulsed last year. He had muscle transferred from thigh and nerves flipped over from chest at mayo clinic in Rochester MN 13 months ago. He is getting a some movement, but not much! Everyone heals in their own time! Try the 'Brachial Plexus' Facebook page. There's usually a q...

Re: Felt tingle in a 'denervated' muscle. Spontaneous recove
Just remember, nerves heal slowly! It's a cm/month. At this point any sensation is a good sign and movement starts out as more like feeling your muscle jump! Pain comes with most traumatic BPI. Keep working! Mayo clinic in MN waits until month 3 after injury to evaluate! Good luck!

Lyrica
FYI - The company that makes Lyrica have some assistance programs to help with the cost of this med. Go to pfizer.com and check it out! It took less than 2 wks from the time I filled out an application for my son, til 90 day supply showed up at our door (no notice!). Well worth the effort!

Re: Techniques for hand
My son had all 5 nerves avulsed in July 2012, he had surgery at Mayo on Nov 29, 2012. They removed muscle from right thigh and inserted into arm from shoulder to wrist. They also transfered his chest nerves to his arm muscle. They told him the best he'll get is arm bending and some hand grasping. Bu...

Re: Techniques for hand
John, We need more info! All kinds of BPI. I've talked with several people, one had use if arm, but lost hand movement and Mayo clinic in MN was able to use a nerve from his leg and he got function back after time to heal! If all nerves avulsed, it's a different story, but there's still things that ...

Re: Nerve transfer surgery tomorrow
Praying the surgery goes well for you! You still have a long road ahead and many months before the total results of your surgery is known. Hope it continues to improve!
