Re: Living with BPI Handbook

<t>Hi Henry! I think that I am still the "grand old man" of tbpi. My accident that started things off was on the playground and I was about 6 years old. That was 49 years ago. One of the first things that I learned about being one-handed is that you have to be patient and intensely creative. Growing...

Re: i am new and looking for support....

<t>Hi Courtney -- I think that I'm still the oldtimer on the list when it comes to TBPI. Age 6 on the playground affecting left arm, hand & leg. Well, that was 49 years ago and back then in the Dark Ages, nobody even knew what TBPI was. I've never had any surgery, probably too late to be effecti...

Re: ROLL CALL ( LURKERS TOO!!!!!!! )

<r>Hi Tanya! Tell your boyfriend that being tbpi is not the end of the world. Of those on the list, I've had it the longest - 48 years. Worse thing you can do is to sit there saying I can't do it. You may have to be a little creative at times but most things can be done. My friends have finally lear...

Re: Non BPI-Boy scouts, cub scouts

<t>I have only the greatest memories from all my years in Scouting (Cubs, Boy Scouts, the college fraternity Alpha Phi Omega and as an adult leader). I am a left tbpi (at age 6)and was one of the first scouts in the country to take advantage of the change in regulations way back in 1966 that allowed...

Re: Question about shooting guns/rifles

<t>I've hunted squirrel, rabbit, duck and deer using standard, unmodified rifles and shotguns for many years. It takes a lot of practice to know the gun and how it acts so that you can compensate for using just one arm. On my best days I can bring my affected arm forward enough to rest the barrel on...

Re: I am sorry......

I think that your statistics might be off a bit. I was right around 7 lbs. at birth, was always right-handed and my tbpi affected my left arm and leg.

Hi Jenny! After 45 years, I still have partial prints on the fingers of the bpi side. How fast are they supposed to fade? Bill

Re: Hi I'm new here

Hi Alison! Welcome aboard! I'm a fairly recent newcomer to the board but everybody has been great. I'm a tbpi and have been for over 45 years. If I can be of any help adjusting, just ask. Bill

Re: gym class for 9 year old boy with erb's palsy

<t>Back in the Dark Ages when I was in elementary school and still dealing with being a traumatic LBPI, I had a great experience. When asked by the coach/principal why I didn't try out for the 5th grade basketball team, I used the excuse that my family couldn't afford basketball shoes (and they coul...

Re: New to this site!

<t>Hello Shane's Dad!! Welcome to the board from another fairly recent newcomer. I'm a LBPI from a trauma over 45 years ago (back when nobody anywhere knew what was going on). Your son has a real good chance of getting through this with flying colors. What part of Michigan are you from? I'm original...
