Re: brown - sequard syndrome
Here is a paper discussing (I couldn't find the one I was referring to earlier) brown-sequard syndrome in brachial plexus injuries. Aparently it occurs in 2-5% of those with avulsions and can be very late onset (years or a decade even). Have you seen a specialist about this? It looks like in some ca...

Re: brown - sequard syndrome
I read a paper not too long ago that discussed the development of hemiplegia years after a brachial plexus injury with avulsions. If I remember correctly it did mention that this is a rare complication. I suppose this is essentially a brown-sequard syndrome that has developed years after the injury....

Re: Amputation...
Hey everyone, So I thought I would give a quick update. I had a second opinion in Edmonton Canada (Four actually). One was from my previous pain specialist. His opinion was that there is a real risk of it bringing back the neuropathic pain, although he couldn't predict the severity or how long it wi...

Re: Arm Sling
Hi Lisa, I dont wear a sling anymore (unless i'm doing something that requires it to be close to my body). I put my hand in my pocket for most of my daily activities etc. I found that a sling hurt my back after awhile. I had one sling custom made in the early days that has Velcro on the front. The s...

Re: Amputation...
Hey everyone, Just an update: I had my appointment with prof Kay in Leeds. He suggested I consider a fused shoulder with a below elbow amputation. The thought with this being that with a fused shoulder and the strong bicep I would have some shoulder/elbow movement and with a prosthesis I may be able...

Re: Amputation...
Wifeofpain, thanks for your insight. Your husbands experience seems to be inline with what I have read with other BPI amputees. Jeffery, I am in agreement with you. If I had the function of my hand I would likely not consider amputation. With only the bicep though the arm is relatively useless and I...

Re: Amputation...
So I went to my GP and I now have an apt with Simon Kay in Leeds for a confirmation that it is a reasonable move to make. I am hoping that he may be able to do it if he agrees that it is the best thing. I know he also does plastics too so maybe he could make it look good (if that is even possible). ...
