Been a long time

Its been several years since we've visited this site. But, Dustin has "function" in all areas now. It's been 10 years since his accident and things just keep improving slowly. So now he is asking about a nerve transfer to be able to go from "function" to "useful". Yes, ...

Re: 'How do I get the 411 on others that are posting?'

If you are getting big empty boxes it may be a problem on your end. Sorry, I don't know how to fix it. But when I click on someone's name or avatar there is first a box with what ever info they have chosen to fill in. Like mine has very little, your has some, Carolyn's has lots, lol. At the lower le...

Strengthening the bpi arm....

Someone had likened the injury to the nerves to an electrical current, where a wire can only transfer a certain amount of electricity. So a damaged nerve transfers less than full strength or less current. I found that to be a good analogy. However now I have a question. Dustin's arm is now what they...

Re: Wearing a Sling

Dustin does not wear a sling. They gave him a couple of different ones in the beginning when he had sublexation. But after his shoulder returned he quit wearing it. The drs at Mayo told us there is really no reason to. But that is Dustin's case, I know each one can be different. The one he wore most...

Re: Any experience with St. Mary's hospital in Rochester

Our experience was very positive. They adimit you on the first floor. Then someone took us to the area where Dustin would get into a gown and have pre-surgery things done (blood pressure, check heart, ect) . When it was time for him to go to anestesia they wheeled him down and took me to a large wai...

Re: Need Advice

Here is a link to the sling we used to pull Dustin's arm back into the socket. All the velcroe straps are adjustable for up, back and forward movement. http://www.sammonspreston.com/app.aspx?cmd=get_product&id=76089 Yes, I understand your frustration, we had a similar situation with his neurolog...

Re: Need Advice

Dustin had a few different slings. There was one that had velcroe straps that could be used to gently pull the arm back into position. I'll have to look and see if I can find it to give you a name. It was ordered by his PT. As far as the Mayo, you can expect the most thurough exam he's ever had. Dus...
