Y-Ties

<t>I just ordered a great product for Rain. Rain has really be focused on the need to learn to tie her shoes. Because she has no function or grip in her left hand the task has not been easy. Her therapist is working on teaching her a one handed method to tie them. In the meantime I ordered a few pai...

Re: ILizarov Bone Lengthening

<t>Thanks for everyone's responses. It has taken us a little while to make a firm decision, but we prayerfully came to it. Rain is 7 now, and was included in the decision making process since she has to do the work. Her major concern is that the surgery not interfere with her dance recital. Rain has...

ILizarov Bone Lengthening

<t>Hi everyone, <br/> It has been a long time since I have posted, I see that there are so many new parents. Just a quick question. Rain is going to be having the Ilizarov bone lengthening procedure done in June. Just wanting any information that anyone can offer regarding the procedure, recovery af...

Re: forearm osteotomy

<t>Dawn,<br/> Rain had this surgery done in 2004. It was actually the easiest procedure we have had thusfar. It is done on an outpatient basis, and the arm will be in a cast for about 10 weeks or so. Rain was 4 when she had it done, and we noted a remarkable change in the positioning of the arm. Thi...

Insurance Question

<t>My hubby's company is switching insurance carriers next month. We are not thrilled about it, but what choice do we have. They are offering the choice of 3 new carriers. All of them are HMO's. They are Pacificare, Atena, and Cigna. If any of you have experience with either of these carriers please...

Re: We are home!

<t>Kimberly,<br/> I am glad that you all made it home safely. Give Brittany a big hug from Rain. I hope that she recovers very soon. I know that this is a very major surgery, so when you get more time I would love to hear more details. Rain is having the Gracillas in May so I am sure that I will hav...

Re: need information on tendon transfers

<t>Georgeann,<br/> Rain had tendon transfers done this past June. She was in a splint for over 12 weeks. The recovery was not to bad really. She was just very tired of wearing the splint around the clock. Honestly though, she has not gained any function yet. It might just be that it is to early to t...

Re: Erb's Palsy vs. Brachial Plexus Injury

<t>I have thoughts that follow inline with Nancy's. Actually, we were just awarded SSI benefits for Rain again. She had them in the past, but they were taken away due to her settlement. When we went through the hearing for SSI, I totally used the term Brachial Plexus Palsey. The sad thing about it t...

Re: how old?

Rain had primary surgery the day she turned 8 weeks old. We had no reason to wait so we decided to go ahead as soon as recommended. No regrets.

Re: ARD meeting scheduled

<t>Thanks for the responses. I just needed some tips in getting started. I called the school today and spoke with the special services administrator who informed me that since they are a private school they are not governed by the same guidelines that public schools are. I briefly told her of some t...
