Re: Pain
<t>Hwee,<br/> <br/> I agree it seems like a long time since your father's surgery for him to still have the same level of pain. Given that he avulsed all five nerves, how many muscles were targeted for reinnervation during the surgery in October? Of those, how many are showing signs (either outwardl...

Re: Muscle Transfer Info. needed!
<t>Hi Michael,<br/> <br/> So sorry you've had to join this "club". The return of motion will take month of therapy, I'm sure you know by now - and the more disciplined you are with sticking with it, the better your ultimate results will be. It also would help if you had a way to exercise in water, s...

Thank you so much for sharing this - it's very encouraging!
Hope you're doing well. Let John know if you have any winter sport plans in Steamboat Springs this year!

Re: Mind Over Matter, With a Machine’s Help
<t>Hey Christopher!<br/> <br/> I just wanted to say that I remember being FASCINATED by the article you published in a prior issue of Outreach, about this experience. I'd strongly encourage other ubpn readers to look it up.<br/> <br/> Hope you're doing well. John is back in Birmingham this summer ge...

Re: Nerve Transfer
<r>Hi Heddi,<br/> <br/> My son had some similar surgeries over five years ago at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. They have done hundreds of these surgeries, and I like that there are three doctors in the group with different specialties (orthopedics, neurosurgery, hand specialist) who work together...

Re: Ode to coincidence by Corrie ten Boom
<r>I actually met Corrie ten Boom when I was in Holland in the 70's - she was an amazing and inspirational woman.<br/> <br/> A book that helped me tremendously after John's accident was "When Bad Things Happen to Good People", written by Harold Kushner. Kushner was a rabbi whose son died at an early...

Re: Can you beleive this?
<t>Hi Gunnar,<br/> <br/> You mentioned Lance Armstrong. When my son John got his bp injury (age 15, hit by a car while training on his bike), ends up Lance's teammate and friend George Hincapie called John while he was in the hospital! A month later, there was a charity ride in Atlanta & George ...

Re: Mayo
How does the paddle work with the surgery? Is this something that's left in from surgery & then you go back later to get it taken out? John's Mayo surgery was almost six years ago so I expect things are done differently now.
Thanks,
Ellen
Thanks,
Ellen

Re: Some Encouraging News
<t>Hey Rosaline,<br/> <br/> That's great news! You guys were about due for something positive, eh? I was thinking the MRI was to be last week and had hoped John could stop by & meet you all, but he's now in Atlanta & we leave Tuesday for our trip. Keep posting on here & if I get the chan...

Re: Can you beleive this?
<t>Hi Rosaline,<br/> <br/> We just spoke - and that story is just WILD. It's hard to believe a doctor would be that insensitive. I'm of course thrilled you're pursuing the appointment with Mayo! You still might want to see about scheduling something with Belzburg in the event he has an opening soone...
