Re: who HAS NOT had surgical intervention?
<t>Ann,<br/> <br/> I agree that handing over your child for surgery is one of the most difficult things a parent can do. It's been over 2 years now and I still recall Hannah's face when we handed her to the nurse. It was an utterly helpless feeling. I will also agree that this injury affects a child...

Re: What do I bring to TCH?
<t>Bring a towel. I thought the towels in the room were kind of small. And maybe some ear plugs (just kidding)! Not so you can't hear your child, but so you don't hear the bells and whistles going off every five minutes or all the people roaming the halls in the middle of the night. I was amazed at ...

Re: Elec Stim. Fact or Fiction
<t>Despite what others above me have said, e-stim was recommended for Hannah by Dr. Nelson. The hope was that it would strenthen the muscles that support the scapula, thereby reducing winging. Unfortunately, it was not comfortable for Hannah. And like most 2 year-olds, she was very vocal in her disp...

Letter to Senator Dole
<r>I sent a letter to Sen. Dole several weeks ago. I expressed to her that while I supported malpractice reform, the current solution will only benefit doctors.<br/> <br/> Here is her response:<br/> <br/> Dear Mr. Ward:<br/> <br/> Thank you so much for taking time to write to me about medical malpra...

Re: C7 nerve transfer
<t>We are big supporters of TCH, and especially Dr. Nath. They have been nothing but fantastic to us. They have given our daughter so much.<br/> <br/> Hannah also had the primary at 6 months, and MQ at 11 months. Thankfully, we have had a significant recovery. Although, Hannah's injury was not a sev...

Re: Cream for Scars?
<t>As Lisa mentioned, we use Mederma on Hannah's scars. Although, according to Dr. Nath it's really just genetics. Some scars keliod and some don't and there's no majic lotion to prevent it. <br/> <br/> And just a quick comment on urea. While not necessarily pleasent, urine (and urea) is sterile whe...

<r>There was an interesting article in The Lancet that indicates that uncircumcised men have a significantly higher chance of contracting AIDS. The Lancet is the premier UK medical journal. Re: Nerve from leg or behind ear?
As someone else mentioned, I think the primary determinant is the amount of nerve needed. Hannah had hers taken from behind the ear. She only had a c5-c6 injury. I seem to recall hearing (somewhere) that TCH only uses the sural nerve now. But I don't know why that is.

Re: For Those Who Chose No Surgery...
<t>Let me just say from a (this) guy's perspective, I would have it done. The boy's locker room can be a difficult place, especially for someone that is different. And as Patty said, boys and soap don't always mix! I have absolutely no recolecction of the event, so I don't suspect it was very trauma...
