Re: Having a baby after delivering one with OBPI...

Erin, I am a mom who recently (almost 4 months ago) gave birth successfully after a delivery resulting in an OBPI. It is a hard decision and not one to be taken lightly. Each case is SO DIFFERENT. I really think it depends on exactly what caused the BPI. How bad was the shoulder dystocia? How big wa...

Re: Giving birth again

This is a tough topic, and I don't think there are any right or wrong answers... I just had a fantastic delivery with no complications (a world of difference than when my son was born two years ago!). After careful consideration, we went with the vaginal delivery again. You can feel free to e-mail m...

Re: docs and botox

<t>Well, I'm not sure about the first one. We're pretty happy with Kozin as our "primary" bpi specialist, but have thankfully gotten several opinions. I highly recommend multiple opinions!<br/> As for the second: we had a wonderful experience with botox. Our first round didn't help gain much movemen...

Re: Reason to celebrate!

<r>Nicole,<br/> <br/> We did not cast after his second round because we had it done locally (with a doctor who doesn't cast afterward). At first I was relieved to not have to deal with the cast, but now looking back I wish he had been casted! Titus still did gain the movement we were hoping for. I w...

Re: Reason to celebrate!

<r>Hi, Nicole! Congratulations on all the "new" stuff! We also are having great gains with the help of botox. We had our second round in July. It takes about 6 months to completely wear off. It's not like it just suddenly stops, so it's hard to explain. Basically it peaks then slowly declines. You a...

Re: Nursing

<t>Titus did not have Horner's, but at first did not want to nurse on his affected side. When he would nurse on that side, I had to feed him in the "football hold". That lasted for a couple weeks. I would recommend trying that since it puts less pressure on the affected arm and shoulder. <br/> Jamie...

Re: Speech Problems/Delay?

<t>I have four children, my youngest being BPI, and something I have noticed, just as a mom, so don't quote me! is that when a child is focused in one area, another area can be behind. For instance, my motor mouth little girl who never stops talking has the hardest time holding her pencil correctly ...

Re: Questions for my niece

Yeah, I would check out www.brachialplexuspalsyfoundation.org and there are some others as well. The message boards here helped me a lot, too. I am always finding new information here.

Re: Questions for my niece

<r>Well, welcome to the "club". I guess the best advice I could give you is to keep researching. Also, seeing a BPI specialist. Our specialist saw us for the first time when my son was 2 months old. We also started Occupational Therapy at about one month. The hardest thing is to not have too many ex...

Re: Movie "Sicko" by Michael Moore

<t>I don't know. I haven't seen the movie, but I don't think Universal Health Care solves problems either. They just solve DIFFERENT problems. From a BPI standpoint, we get one perspective because that is where our focus is. However, I have family in Canada and a best friend that is British and they...
